The Office for Study Abroad offers various types of advising services to assist students in their search for a program, application process, pre-departure preparations, transfer credit process and beyond. Our services are meant to build off of each other to help walk students through the overall process. Our office recommends beginning your advising journey with our peer or express services, before diving deeper into the steps to study abroad with your main Study Abroad Advisor.
One-on-One Study Abroad Advising
By appointment only
Monday - Friday: 9am-5pm
*Advising hours are held in-person during the school year, from the first day of classes to the last day of classes and virtually over the summer or during designated school breaks (fall, winter, spring). Additional virtual appointments can be made available upon request.
Each year, the Office for Study Abroad has a new team of Study Abroad Community Ambassadors (SACAs), who are high achieving and outgoing study abroad alumni trained to support newly interested students with the study abroad process at GW. SACAs offer invaluable advice, information, and resources from a GW student perspective and are well equipped to help students navigate the required steps to study abroad. Utilizing this peer-to-peer advising service is an excellent way to start the study abroad process and learn more about what it is really like studying abroad as a GW student on our various program offerings. When our office is open during standard business hours, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, students can drop in for express assistance and drop-in services. Students will be met by someone in our staff who can help answer preliminary and general questions regarding the application process, GW systems (GW CATS & GW Passport), scholarship opportunities, the transfer credit process and other standard questions. For additional express support, or if you are unsure of which staff member or advisor to go to for assistance, our team can also be reached at via email at [email protected].
One-on-One Study Abroad Advising
Our advising team within the office is structured by school to help allow for a seamless continuation of students' degree plans while abroad. Each of our advisors specialize in a certain school or schools within GW to support students in ensuring study abroad works with their overall academic goals and plan. Our advisors are well-versed in our diverse program offerings and locations to assist with helping students understand program options, navigating the application process and various requirements, preparing students for their impending transition and cultural adjustment, connecting applicants with alumni, exploring funding opportunities, scholarships and billing support, supporting with in-country issues, transferring credits, and assisting with returnee struggles. Advisors are available to work with students one-on-one via Advising Hours, which are appointment based. Please select your school below for more information. Prior to making an appointment with your advisor, we require students to first review our Study Abroad 101 content to understand some of the basics. If you're interested in joining the Global Bachelor's Program, we advise you to meet with our Program Manager before meeting with your advisor by school.
