After finishing my study abroad experience, I am so grateful and glad that I took the opportunity to do it. I have had an amazing time exploring new places and countries while getting the chance to engage with other writers on campus. My classes at Queen Mary University of London have taught me so much about poetry and literature that I will forever hold close. I have learned about Jane Austen on a deeper level and gained the ability to evaluate how children are portrayed in literature during my Reading/Writing Childhood module.

Taking creative writing classes abroad has been an enjoyable experience, especially when I have had the chance to learn about works that I may not have been exposed to otherwise since they are centered around British literature. I have also had the opportunity to see plays and meet some of my favorite authors. I met Dolly Alderton, the author of “Everything I Know About Love” and “Good Material.” The bookstore chain Foyles, located in the UK, held an event with several authors for book lovers to get the chance to attend a free meet and greet/book signing. Alderton was so nice and she is one of my favorite authors this year.

Getting the chance to navigate such a unique perspective of life has been rewarding. However, it has also been challenging. Being so far away from home has led me to grow quite homesick, but getting the chance to video call and speak to my family has helped. I know that my parents and little sister are extremely proud of me, and it makes me feel so grateful for all of the opportunities that I have had access to.

When studying abroad, I made sure to look for my interests within the place I was visiting before moving in. I am so glad I did so! I was able to find cool events taking place nearby that aligned with my interests and love for literature. I got the chance to write alongside my peers and learn more about the history of literature. Studying abroad has taught me the importance of educational opportunities and finding what makes you stand out in this world.
