I've been in South Korea for a month so far and I am greatly enjoying myself. Whether it comes to academics, exploration, and cultural learning, I have created so many new and valuable memories within my first few weeks here. I am continuing my studying of psychology and Korean language at Yonsei University this spring, and I am thoroughly liking them so far! Since I am minoring in Korean language, I find it really unique to have the opportunity to learn this language in its origin country, along with others with similar educational goals as I have. Yonsei University is in the heart of Seoul, so I have easy access to explore this huge, fascinating city around me. Differing from GW, Yonsei University's campus is extremely large, and not merged with the city, so campus life is very unique as well. There are many hills, architectural variations, and new encounters related to the university's location alone. Within the short period of time I've been here, I have made friends from various parts of the world, attended concerts, and have furthered my knowledge in Korean culture through immersive experiences. There definitely is a culture shock, as South Korea is very different from the United States, but it is something that I am continuing to learn and be aware of, and valuing our differences. With the friends I've made so far, we have explored areas in Seoul that have the cutest cafes, most delicious street food, and thrilling shopping experiences. Throughout my journey thus far, I have become really close friends with my roommate here, who is someone I hadn't met until my arrival, while still being able to keep in touch with my friends back at GW. I really am enjoying my time here so far and am extremely excited to see what is to come in the future.
