Studying abroad in Barcelona has been one of the most exciting and inspiring experiences of my college career. On a typical Monday, my day starts with classes at IAU, which luckily is just a five-minute walk from my apartment shared with six other GW girls.
My schedule usually includes three classes, some fun electives and others that count toward my marketing major. One of my favorites is Fashion and Business Product Strategy, where we not only learn about global fashion marketing but also attend events like Barcelona Fashion Week. Our professor even has her own fashion brand, so it’s been incredible to learn directly from someone launching her business in real time. Other students here take classes like Wine and Food Pairing or Photographing Barcelona, so the options are endless. I’m also taking courses such as Marketing and Distribution Channels and Advertising and Society, which tie directly into my major and career interests. Between classes, I like to grab a quick coffee or snack from Mercadona and catch up with friends. If the weather’s nice, we’ll head to Barceloneta Beach after class to play volleyball, browse local thrift stores, or explore the shops around the Gothic Quarter or El Born. For dinner, I might cook something simple from LIDL, the grocery store next door, or meet friends for tapas. If it's a night out, we’ll usually end the day playing cards at Ovella Negra or laughing at a comedy show at The Comedy Clubhouse.
Every day here feels like a balance between learning, exploring, and connecting with others. Studying abroad has given me the chance to grow both academically and personally. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to experience Barcelona not just as a visitor, but as a student living and learning within its culture.
