Happy Summer!

Each semester seems to pass by more quickly than the last, and this one was no exception.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my time at SNU has been the chance to connect with classmates and professors.

The academic environment here is both rigorous and supportive, and I have learned so much from the diverse perspectives of my peers. Engaging in class discussions, group projects, and especially conversations outside of the classroom context has broadened my understanding of the lives of the Korean students here.

A significant part of my abroad experience has been conducting research for George Washington University through the Elliott School of International Affairs' Dean's Scholars Program. My research has involved interviewing South Korean students on their perception of the factors that led to the division of Korea into two separate entities, the underlying reasons behind the existence of two Koreas, and their sentiments toward reunification. The students I spoke with were incredibly generous with their time and insights, offering perspectives that I might not have encountered otherwise.

Outside of academics, I have enjoyed exploring Seoul, Busan, Ulsan, and even had the opportunity to take a quick weekend trip to Japan! In Seoul, I made riding Subway Line 2 a regular part of my routine, using it to explore the city's various districts, from historical sites like Gyeongbokgung Palace to the bustling street food markets in Myeongdong. I particularly enjoyed attending my first-ever baseball game and experienced the unique and energetic cheering culture of Korean baseball fans.

In Busan and Ulsan, where my grandparents live, I experienced the beautiful mountains and coastal scenery. My grandparents don’t have wifi, so any weekend spent with them was a golden window to unplug and enjoy my time with them. My weekend trip to Japan was a whirlwind of taking in the beauties of Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe.

For future students considering studying abroad, my advice is to embrace every open door that comes your way with gratitude, including the challenges they may bring! Make an effort to engage with locals, try new foods, and explore places off the beaten path. Your time abroad is a unique chance to broaden your horizons and create memories that will last a lifetime. I learned so much about myself through this experience and am truly so grateful to have had this opportunity to study abroad.

As I prepare to return home, I carry with me not only academic knowledge but also a deep appreciation for the friendships and connections I have made. This semester has been a pivotal chapter in my educational journey, and I look forward to applying the lessons I've learned to my future endeavors.

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
