The Office for Study Abroad provides a number of services to our students and makes certain reservations on a student’s behalf to ensure a smooth transition overseas. If you complete the application process for study abroad and decide to withdraw your participation, you will be responsible for costs incurred on your behalf, depending on the date of your withdrawal. Unless otherwise stated under each category below, GW financial assistance does not apply to unrecoverable program costs or any financial penalties associated with withdrawals.
Prior to the program start date and GW semester: If you withdraw before the program starts, you are fully responsible for any unrecoverable costs to the program associated with your anticipated participation. In addition, if you withdraw from study abroad after you have been registered for GW study abroad status and after the last day of the GW semester prior to going abroad, you will be charged a withdrawal fee by the Office for Study Abroad.
Costs incurred after program start date but before GW semester begins: If you withdraw after the program starts and before GW's parallel semester begins, you are responsible to the provider for any unrecoverable costs associated with your participation and will be charged a withdrawal fee by the Office for Study Abroad.
After GW semester begins but before program starts: If you withdraw after the GW semester starts and before the program begins, you are fully responsible to the provider for any unrecoverable costs associated with your participation and will be charged a withdrawal fee by the Office for Study Abroad.
