Exchange Programs in Asia

About Waseda

In 2007, Waseda University celebrated the 125th anniversary of its founding by scholar and government leader Shigenobu Okuma. Waseda is one of Japan's top private, co-educational institutions of higher learning. Founded as a college with three departments under the old Japanese system of higher education, it has since grown to become a comprehensive university with 13 undergraduate schools. Waseda enrolls over 45,000 undergraduate students and 300 exchange students each year.

Learning at Waseda

GW students at Waseda have three study track options:

  • The School of International Liberal Studies' (SILS) One-Year Study Abroad Program is an English-based program offering coursework in Asian culture, history, society, politics, economics, geography, arts, and literature.
  • The Undergraduate Studies Program is a Japanese-language based program that allows qualified students to enroll in regular coursework offered in Japanese at Waseda.
  • The Intensive Japanese Language Program is a year-long language-study focused program.

Life at Waseda

Students at Waseda are able to get involved in the many circle and clubs run by students. Numbering over 700, Waseda's clubs are grouped into five officially recognized types: physical education clubs (43 clubs), student associations (159 clubs), hobby clubs (347 clubs), regional student associations (22 clubs), and clubs recognized by individual schools (more than 100 clubs).

The International Community Center also organizes events throughout the semester for international students at Waseda.

Exchange students at Waseda live in international dormitories near the main campus. Students in the SILS program can also request to live in a homestay with a family in Tokyo.

Students apply for housing upon acceptance to Waseda and pay all housing fees directly to Waseda University.
