The GW Office for Study Abroad has worked with GW's Center for Career Services and our provider partners to curate the below list of recommended programs for virtual international summer internships. Work for an international organization from wherever you are in the world! This is a great opportunity to get real-world experience in your field of study, while improving your intercultural skills, such as cultural awareness and intercultual communication. Just because travel is limited does not mean you can't participate in a global experience, which will help you stand out in the competitive global job market! CIEE | CET | IES

CIEE

CIEE Virtual Global Internships

 Duration, Dates & Deadlines 

CIEE offers 8 or 12 week options beginning either May 17 or June 14. Deadlines to apply are April 1 (May start) or May 1 (June start)

 Cost 

The program cost is $1,450 (8 weeks) or $1,600 (12 weeks), which would be billed directly to the student and would not be charged through GW. Cost includes internship placement and other CIEE support and amenities (see below). Talk to your study abroad advisor about potential scholarship and financing opportunities. 

 Internship Details  

Students typically work 25-30 hours per week, which equates to 200-240 total hours (8 week program) or 16-20 hours per week, which equates to 192-240 total hours (12 week program). Students must have a 2.5 GPA minimum in order to apply and must have completed at least their first academic year of college. However, there are no language prerequisites. CIEE will work to place you in an organization that best fits your academic, personal, and professional goals. The focus in placement will always be field of study over geographical destination. 

 Locations & Fields

CIEE partners with over 3,000 companies around the world for internship placements. These companies span over 16 different countries throughout Europe, Sub-Saharran Africa, Asia, Latin America, and North America. The fields available for potential internship placements include:

 Additional Support & Amenities  

This program offers 6+ workshops, orientations, coaching sessions. Though this is a not-for-credit program, CIEE still offers extensive additional support to help students reflect on and make the most of their internship and global experience, albeit virtually. CET

CET Global Virtual Internships

 Duration, Dates & Deadlines 

CET internships are 10 weeks in length and begin in the summer on June 7. The summer deadline to apply is March 1

 Cost 

The program cost is $1,995, which would be billed directly to the student and would not be charged through GW. Cost includes internship placement and other CET support and amenities (see below). Talk to your study abroad advisor about potential scholarship and financing opportunities. 

 Internship Details  

Students typically work 10-15 hours per week, however there is some flexibility with this depending on the organization. This equates to 100-150 hours in total. This is a credit-bearing program and students will also spend 1.5 hours per week in live class time taking CET's course, Bridging Theory & Practice to help build context and engagement around the internship experience. Students may also add on personal language instruction to help with cultural understanding and make the most of their experience. This is something CET programs are well-known for. Students must have a 3.0 GPA minimum in order to apply. Note: Students interested in transferring the course credit back to GW should speak with their Academic Advisor.

 Additional Support & Amenities  

CET's course, Bridging Theory & Practice, as well as their additional language instruction is designed to help support students in augmenting their internship experience.  CET's course will help students navigate an international workplace with professionalism. CET also offer pre-program preparation and post-program reflection. 

IES

IES Virtual Internships

 Duration, Dates & Deadlines 

IES's Summer Virtual Internship Program is 8 weeks in length. Interested students must apply before the March 15 deadline

 Cost 

The program cost is dependent on whether students do the program for-credit or not-for-credit, and how many credits are taken. The cost options include, $1,695 (no credit), $1,995 (3 credits), $2,295 (6 credits). Cost includes internship placement and other IES support and amenities (see below). Talk to your study abroad advisor about potential scholarship and financing opportunities. 

 Internship Details  

Students typically work 10-32 hours per week depending on the amount of credits taken in conjunction with the internship. Students who choose to participate in the for-credit option of the program will be taking IES's course, Leading Across Cultures, which will consist of roughly 15 hours of online coursework total. To apply, students must meet a 2.5 GPA minimum and must be at least Sophomore standing. IES takes an industy-first approach when placing students in internships to ensure the experience fits their personal and professional goals. Note: Students interested in transferring the course credit back to GW should speak with their Academic Advisor.

For their virtual internship program, 13 IES locations are participating. The locations span throughout Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Oceania. The fields available for potential internship placements include:

 Additional Support & Amenities  

In addition to the very meticulous internship placements IES conducts for students, they also provide additional advising and support throughout the whole process. Students will be paired with an Internship Coordinator who is based in the city of their internship placement and who can help students maximize every day in the virtual office.
