GW Exchanges in Europe

About Vienna University

Established in 1898,   the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) is one of the oldest business universities in Europe and the EU's largest educational institution for business and economics, business law, and social sciences. It enrolls nearly 27,000 students each year, about one quarter of whom are international students. WU is located in the Austrian capital of Vienna, a city cherished for its rich artwork, architecture, music, and food. Vienna also houses the headquarters of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Vienna University is the first and only Austrian university to receive the European Quality Improvement System, or EQUIS, accreditation .  Its close ties to the corporate world and the resulting excellent job prospects, along with the wide range of programs available, makes this exchange a fantastic opportunity for GW School of Business and Economics students.

Learning at Vienna University

GW students can select courses from the regular course catalogue, which offers more than 80 courses in English.  Students proficient in German can also choose from more than 2000 courses taught in German. Classes are available  in various business-related fields, such as:

Life at Vienna University

The International Office helps to orient exchange students to their new city. During the two weeks before the official start of the semester, the university holds an orientation and introduces exchange students to Austrian students and university staff. The orientation program includes company visits, day trips in Vienna, and a semester opening party. Students can also get involved in campus life by joining organizations such as the Students' Union, Athletic Club, or Vienna University choir, to name a few.

Vienna University helps exchange students secure housing for their time abroad. There is no university residence, however, students are housed in a dormitory administered by the Austrian Exchange Service. WU has a number of rooms for its exchange students that are secured on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once this limit is reached,  the Austrian Exchange Service can place students in one of 30 other dorms located throughout the city.

Students also have the option of securing private accommodations on their own. WU has a list of suggested housing databases for students who choose this option.
