Life at The University of Auckland

Outside of the classroom, students can get involved in the campus community by joining one of 200 clubs and activities and volunteering opportunities. During orientation week, The University of Auckland hosts a range of events to allow arriving students to meet other students and experience a traditional Māori pōwhiri (welcome ceremony). Stretching across the center of the city, the university campus is integrated into the heart of city life. Harbor views and nearby parks provide a scenic study setting, just minutes’ walk from the city center’s shopping and entertainment district. Ranked 3rd in the world for quality of living, beach activities play a big part in Auckland city life.

As exchange students, GW students are guaranteed accommodation while at The University of Auckland. The University offers a wide range of housing options from self-catered to catered.

Self-catered residences are more independent in nature and most accommodations are usually apartment/flat style. Self-catered residences also have resident coordinators to make sure students stay involved both in and out of class. Catered halls of residence are typically for first-year students at the University of Auckland. Study groups are also available to encourage and engage students, and prepare them for personal and academic success.
