Exchange Programs in Asia

About the National University of Singapore (NUS)

A leading global university centered in Asia, the National University of Singapore (NUS) offers a global approach to education and research, with a focus on Asian perspectives and expertise. Its transformative education includes a broad-based curriculum underscored by multi-disciplinary courses and cross-faculty enrichment, as well as special programs which allow students to realize their full potential. Over 36,000 students from 100 countries enrich the community with their diverse social and cultural perspectives, making campus life vibrant and exciting.

Learning at NUS

NUS offers a wide variety of courses to exchange students, all taught in English. Students can take courses from any of the seven faculties at the university.

Because of its location, NUS has a particular specialty in Southeast Asian Studies and offers many unique content and language courses unavailable at GW.  Past GW exchange students at NUS have taken courses in computer science, psychology, politics, economics, history, languages, and engineering.  Students also have the option of completing a semester-long research project under the direction of a faculty member at NUS.

Life in Singapore

There are hundreds of clubs, sport leagues, and performance groups to join on the NUS campus. The university’s International Relations Office also plans a variety of activities throughout the semester, including a host family program to pair international students with Singaporean residents or students in order to learn more about local culture.

Most GW exchange students at NUS live in either University Town (a community of three residential colleges) or Prince George's Park Residences (PGPR), a large residential complex with about 2,800 residents. Students typically live in single or double rooms grouped in clusters. The 15 residents in each cluster share a kitchen, dining area, and bathroom.  The cluster lifestyle exposes students to independent living and offers excellent opportunities for interaction.

PGPR and UTown also house an auditorium, seminar rooms, a multi-purpose hall, gymnasium, basketball and tennis courts, a jogging track, an exercise station, mini-supermarket, food outlets and other services. Distributed throughout the residence, are air-conditioned lounges, television rooms, and meeting and reading rooms.
