GW Madrid

All students live with a Spanish host family, an experience which enables them to strengthen their Spanish language abilities and enjoy daily interaction and shared meals with members of the household. The homestay enhances the cultural experience by creating opportunities for the students to learn more about Spanish culture and local customs through an insider's perspective. All students have a private bedroom, internet access, laundry service and three meals daily.

GW Madrid/ Latin America HomestayThere are different types of host families. Some are married couples with young children, while others are single women with university-age children or no children at all. All represent part of the reality of contemporary Spain and welcome students into their homes with their warm, Spanish parenting style. Students usually comment that the homestay component is the most meaningful and rewarding aspect of the GW Madrid program.

*Students studying for a full academic year in Madrid may elect to organize their own living arrangements for the second semester of the program. Independent living accommodations must be approved by the GW Madrid Resident Director.

The housing fee is included in the Tier 5 program cost of the GW Madrid program.

"The reason I chose GW Madrid was to have a homestay experience, and it has exceeded my expectations. My host family has taught me more about Spain than I ever would have come across on my own, and my Spanish has certainly improved with their help!"

-Sarah Pierson, International Affairs

"I would recommend living with a host family because it really forces you to improve your Spanish. Not to mention my host family is the kindest, most generous group of people I have met, and they have truly made my stay in Spain incredible."

- Kayalyn Kibber, International Affairs

"Homestay families allow you to experience the culture every day, not just on trips and excursions. In a homestay, you are actually LIVING abroad, not just studying abroad."

- Ryan Alcorn, History and International Affairs
