The GW Exchange Program Scholarship provides up to $1,500 for semester study for GW-exchange or GW Chile Study Program. Interested students can submit an application to be considered for the GW Exchange Program Scholarship through their GW Exchange or GW Chile application.

About the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology  

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a leading international research university dedicated to the pursuit of new knowledge in science and engineering. The university campus occupies a stunning 150-acre site overlooking Clear Water Bay. GW's exchange with HKUST is for students in the School of Engineering and Applied Science only.

Learning at HKUST

The School of Engineering has six academic departments:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Electronic and Computer Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management
  • Mechanical Engineering

Exchange students are assigned to the department that best matches their engineering major department at GW. On average, exchange students at the undergraduate level or equivalent take five courses per semester, typically totaling 15 credits. Courses are taught in English.

Life at HKUST

HKUST enrolls approximately 9,000 students. The campus is located on Clear Water Bay and has many opportunities for student involvement. Exchange students are encouraged to join any of the hundreds of performance, sport, academic, and interest societies. The campus offers many services, including dining facilities, a grocery store, a gym, and even a hair salon. Students can learn more about life at HKUST here. 


The university offers on-campus housing in state-of-the-art dormitories and university apartments. Students can choose to live with local students or other exchange students. There are also living and learning communities to which exchange students may apply. These include an international house living-learning community and a community focused on sustainability.

GW students apply for their accommodation upon acceptance to the university and pay all housing fees directly to HKUST.

The HKUST International Summer Program (ISP) is a well-structured program that aims to create a rewarding summer experience for students from around the world. It comprises high-quality education and enriching cultural activities, allowing students to learn from academic achievers outside of their home institutions while gaining insight into the Asian culture.
