The Global Bachelor's Committee

The Global Bachelor’s Program is led by a committee of representatives from the Office of International Programs, Columbian College, the Elliott School, the School of Business, the Center for Career Services, Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships,  and the Office for Study Abroad. This joint effort allows students to coordinate their experience within their schools with an eye towards not just study abroad but their graduate study or career beyond GW.

Academic Leadership - Shanghai

Dr. Steve Suranovic - Academic Director of Global Bachelor’s Shanghai Program 

Dr. Suranovic

Steve Suranovic is the Academic Director of the GW Global Bachelor’s Shanghai Program and teaches the program core course ECON 2180 during the Shanghai Semester. Professor Suranovic received his B.S. in mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and his M.S. and Ph.D. in  economics from Cornell University.

Professor Suranovic teaches principles of microeconomics, international trade and international finance theory and policy. In Fall 2002, he taught at Sichuan  University in Chengdu, China, as a visiting Fulbright lecturer. Since 2009 he has taught summer study abroad classes for GW students at Fudan University in Shanghai.

Professor Suranovic is on campus at GW during the fall semester and spends spring semesters with the Global Bachelor's Group in Shanghai.


Academic Leadership – Belfast

Dr. Donna Scarboro - Associate Vice Provost for International Programs

Photo Dr. ScarboroDonna Scarboro leads the Belfast track of the Global Bachelor’s Program, and oversees the program’s implementation through the Office for Study Abroad.  Dr. Scarboro holds an M.A. and Ph.D. from Emory University and has taught at  GW in the English Department, University Honors Program, and Global Bachelor’s Program.  As Associate Provost for International Programs at GW, she oversees a range of university partnerships and programs across the globe, in  cooperation with faculty and departments involved in international activities. Dr. Scarboro will travel to The Queen’s University in Belfast (QUB) with the GW Global Bachelor’s cohort and will participate in the pre-semester tours, lectures,  and site visits along with colleagues from QUB.


Dr. Olwen Purdue – Queen’s University Belfast

The on-site program director for the Global Bachelor’s in Belfast is Dr. Olwen Purdue.  Dr. Purdue heads the university’s master’s degree program in Public History; she is an expert in 18th and 19th century social history of Ireland. She was specialist historical advisor for Titanic Belfast and a member of the advisory group for the Ulster Museum's Irish history exhibition.  Dr. Purdue will draw on faculty experts across the university and beyond to engage  scholars in diverse fields such as Peace Studies, International Relations, Anthropology, and Human Rights to set the Irish experience in a global context for the program participants.
