Associate Provost for International Programs Donna Scarboro, Director for Study Abroad Rob Hallworth, Study Abroad Advisor Taylor Wood, Focus on Fall Abroad Community Assistant Shay Laws, and Graduate School of Education and Human Development students Alicia Freter and Trisha Makovsky participated in the Inaugural Diversity Conference:  “Changing Landscapes:  Strategies and Opportunities for Greater Access,” hosted by Loyola University in Chicago in April.  The conference focused on ways to increase access and support study abroad experiences among diverse and underrepresented student populations, a key goal for the Office for Study Abroad at GW.  Ambassador Andrew Young, pictured here with Donna Scarboro, was the plenary speaker.

Dr. Scarboro participated in a panel discussion together with Dr. Aaron Bruce, chief diversity officer at San Diego State University, and Dr. Marcus L. Martin, vice president and chief officer of diversity and equity at the University of Virginia.  Taylor Wood chaired a session called  “Addressing Religious Diversity in Study Abroad Advising,” and Laws presented a poster showcasing the Living and Learning Communities that are part of GW’s innovative Focus on Fall Abroad Community initiative.  Freter and Makovsky presented a poster on a centralized website they created focused on the LGBTQIA community, which identifies various student resources on identity and study abroad
