GW Madrid

GW Madrid is based at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in Spain and all of Europe. It is recognized internationally, ranking among the 200 best universities in the world. The university is located in Cantoblanco, 40 minutes north of downtown Madrid and is equipped with three main libraries and multiple sports facilities, including basketball and tennis courts, and indoor and outdoor pools.

UAM GW MadridThe UAM is Spain's benchmark university in terms of research, with a number of university research institutes on campus. UAM participates in international exchange with some of the best universities in the world, and through the Erasmus exchange program with European universities over 1000 UAM students study abroad each year.

GW Madrid Study Center Courses

GW Madrid offers approximately 15 courses in a variety of disciplines to meet student needs. These courses are taught by UAM professors but only with GW students. Students normally select a total of 4-5 courses from among GW Madrid's offerings. Depending on a student's Spanish language level, at least one of these courses must be a continuation of Spanish language study.

All GW Madrid courses are equivalent to GW courses offered on the GW campus. Students earn grades for these courses that factor into their GPAs. Professors integrate the highest level of scholarship with professional experience and are approved by departments at GW after review of their teaching credentials, course material, and syllabi.

UAM Direct Enroll Course Option

Students with advanced Spanish language ability, those who have taken Spanish 2005 or higher, are strongly encouraged to directly enroll in at least one course offered through the UAM in addition to the GW Madrid courses. UAM courses are taught in Spanish and include Spanish and international students. GW students must receive a passing grade of C or above to earn credit. Students must receive course approvals from their GW academic advisor to receive credit for UAM direct enroll courses.

"My favorite GW Madrid class is History of Spain because the professor is extremely passionate about the subject.  Learning about the history of the nation in which you are currently studying is a unique experience - I feel like a real madrileña."

- Julia Simon, International Affairs

"The opportunity to take an art history class at the Museo del Prado with one of the curators of the Museo Reina Sofía is an incredible and invaluable experience. The professor literally knows everything about Spanish art and is the best source a student could ask for. "

- Sofia Skarlatos, History
